The Town of Bethany was incorporated in 1853 and still operates under its original Virginia Charter. The town is an Historic District. The Council and the Mayor meet on the 1st Wednesday of each month in the council chambers located in the Bethany Community Building adjacent to the town park. Each member is elected to a two year term. Elections are held at the Council Chambers on the second Tuesday in June. Present Officers are listed below.
